Voyage is a French cable TV channel devoted to travel and tourism, and its website gathers together further details about visiting foreign countries as well as information on the different programmes you can find on the channel. As far as practising travel vocabulary is concerned, the best part of the site to head for is the "Préparer vos vacances" section, which can be accessed from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Here there is a "clickable" world map from which you can go to individual countries for information on weather, things to see, language and so on (some of the links here connect to English websites outside the Voyage site).

Another area of interest for exercise work in the site is "Le club des voyageurs", which is a noticeboard for people looking for more travel information, travelling companions, correspondents and more. There are also excerpts of programmes from the Voyage channel advertised on the homepage, although to see these you will need to have Realplayer installed on your computer. This can again be downloaded for free from the Realplayer website (click here) - make sure you get the free basic version rather than the "plus" which costs $30.

The Tourisme en France website is a huge network of information and subsidiary sites provided by the French Tourist Office, covering virtually every corner of the country. As well as having details about attractions and sights in every town in France, there are also interesting outlines of themed holidays (e.g. food, sport, nature and so on), often in lesser-known regions too. The activity for fusée en ligne focuses on this part of the site - "Une sélection de séjours insolites pour découvrir la France" from the main menu - and encourages pupils to plan a holiday based on the information given here. Another idea is to give a selection of towns or regions for pupils to search for and give either a description of where they went and what they did, or a mini-presentation on this region of France.

An interesting subsidiary part of the Tourisme en France site is accessed by clicking on the "bonjour 2000" link at the bottom of the homepage. This takes you to a short practical guide to getting around France, shopping, health, telephone, accomodation, restaurants and other useful things to know when visiting the country - and good material for comprehension work with pupils.
