La Redoute is a large online shopping service that offers a range of goods, but in particular clothes - it is similar in many ways to Quelle and 3 Suisses, although probably slightly easier to get around. The clothing sections are the first four listed from the homepage - "Femme", "Lingerie", "Homme" and "Enfant" - although you might want to avoid the second of these depending on your class. Once you click on one of these parts of the site there is a full list given of the different kinds of clothing, most of the vocabulary of which should be quite familiar to the pupils by now. There will usually also be some sort of special promotion of the month for each department as well. Beyond identifying the names of the departments, the fusée en ligne activity practises clothing vocabulary and allows pupils to wander the site filling their virtual shopping basket ("votre panier" in the menu on the left). Check first that this works on your computers as some firewall settings on servers forbid access to these parts of sites. Also make sure that none of the pupils try to actually purchase anything as a credit card number is all they need.

An alternative activity to practise some more vocabulary from Unit 5 would be for pupils to choose several items from the catalogue, print out pictures of the pieces of clothing along with their prices, and then to do a role-play in pairs of a sales assistant trying to sell them to a customer as on page 80 of the Student's Book. The more outrageous the price and look of the piece of clothing the better! This could also be tried with the 3 Suisses website below.

Like La Redoute and Quelle, 3 Suisses is a large international online shop specialising in clothes, although it also sells other products too (it's probably a good idea to restrict usage of the site to clothes though seeing as other online shopping facilities are visited later in the book). This site is slightly more complicated to navigate round than La Redoute, and from the homepage ("Boulevard") you have to click on the image of the catalogue on the left-hand side of the screen to reach the main collection ("le Chouchou"). The different categories for this site are named in a slightly more vague manner so pupils might have to use a bit more detective work to determine which section sells what. Our activity helps pupils to orientate themselves round the site before looking for a special deal in the "Bonnes Affaires" section (accessed from the menu on the left again).

Another activity linking in with Unit 5 of the Student's Book would be for pupils to find ideal clothes for each "look" described on page 82, so for example a simple pair of jeans for Charlotte in picture one, a chiffon scarf for Ségolène in picture seven, and so on. This could also be tried with the La Redoute website above.
